MUNICH: Netherlands Secure First Euro Quarterfinal Spot in 16 Years with 3-0 Triumph Over Romania

The Netherlands ended a 16-year wait for a European Championship quarterfinal appearance with a decisive 3-0 victory against Romania on Tuesday.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 20th minute, setting the stage for a dominant Dutch performance. Donyell Malen then sealed the win with two late goals, ensuring the Netherlands’ first quarterfinal berth since 2008.

Despite the comfortable scoreline, the Dutch had to overcome several missed opportunities to extend their lead earlier in the match. Captain Virgil van Dijk also struck the woodwork, underscoring the team’s relentless attack. This performance was a marked improvement from their group stage showing, which concluded with a 3-2 defeat to Austria.

The Netherlands could face Austria again in a potential quarterfinal rematch on Saturday in Berlin, depending on the outcome of Austria’s match against Turkey later Tuesday.
