Sergio Perez Reveals Full Extent of Red Bull’s Struggles After Disappointing Austrian Grand Prix

The serious harm that was done to Sergio Perez’s Red Bull, which resulted in his poor Austrian Grand Prix, has been made public.

The Mexican’s straight-line speed was impacted throughout the race when he made contact with Oscar Piastri’s McLaren on the first lap following their battle for position with Charles Leclerc at Turn 4.

Ultimately, Perez placed eighth behind Nico Hulkenberg’s Haas, 54 seconds behind George Russell, the winner, and 17 seconds behind teammate Max Verstappen, who sustained injury after colliding with Lando Norris during a battle for the lead.

Following the race, the Mexican posted a picture of the damage to his Instagram story, illustrating the size of the hole that had been punched in the side of his RB20.

Speaking after the race, the Mexican stated he was “disappointed” in his performance and detailed how the extent of the damage impacted his overall pace.

“To be in this situation right now is just disappointing. We got off to a great start in the race, but on lap one, I sustained some damage to the car, which caused it to struggle and slide, making it very difficult to go up to the front,” stated Perez.

“Because of the damage, I lost my balance and erred when entering the pits. This cost us five seconds of time, which hurt us in the last stages of the race.

“We need to reflect on a few things and thoroughly examine everything; the race pace was uncertain today, even if I thought we made some excellent progress from yesterday. We didn’t perform well overall, and I had a lot of difficulty in this challenging race.

Hulkenberg erred at the last corner when they started the last lap, allowing Perez to close the gap and pass him on the run up to Turn 3.

On the final lap at Turn 4, Hulkenberg was able to retake Perez thanks to the Haas’s crossing of the DRS detection zone after him and the slipstream.

At the line, Hulkenberg edged off Perez by a mere.5 seconds, adding to the Mexican’s miserable race day at Red Bull’s home track. Additionally, this marks Perez’s fifth consecutive race in which he has not placed among the top ten.
