Man United Transfer Update: Casemiro Rejects Move to European Giants

Casemiro, a midfield player for Manchester United, is said to have turned down the chance to sign with a different major European team this summer.

The 32-year-old, who cost an estimated £70 million to sign when he left Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, made 53 appearances across all competitions in his rookie season with the Red Devils.

But Casemiro had a difficult 2023–24 season with many highs and lows, with more of the latter due to the criticism he frequently received from fans and commentators for his defensive and midfield play.

Casemiro made 32 appearances for a Manchester United team that finished eighth in the Premier League, their lowest ever result. The team also failed to advance past the group stage of the Champions League.

Man United did win the FA Cup at the end of the season, but that victory was achieved without Casemiro, who was left out of the matchday squad and is still the focus of a lot of rumours heading into next season.

Casemiro declines an offer from Bayern Munich

Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League have expressed interest in signing Casemiro recently, but Trivela claims that Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich has made an attempt to sign the Brazil international.

The source also states that when Bayern “carried out a survey” of Casemiro, the midfield player initially expressed interest in joining Bayern at the Allianz Arena. However, negotiations between the two sides broke down, and the midfielder was not persuaded to leave Old Trafford by the “values signalled by the Germans.”

When communication between the two sides began at the close of the 2022–2023 season, it is said that Bayern also indicated an interest in signing Casemiro; nevertheless, a move to Bavaria finally fell through.

Since then, Bayern, under Vincent Kompany’s management, have intensified their efforts to get Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, and they are rumored to be in talks about a possible €45 million (£38 million) trade.

What does Casemiro’s future hold?

According to Trivela, Casemiro still wants to compete for the greatest honors at the highest level and will only leave Man United if he receives a proposition that is “advantageous” from a financial and project-based standpoint.

A move to Saudi Arabia would appear to be ruled out by this desire, but it’s unclear if any other elite European teams—aside from Bayern—would be open to luring him away from Old Trafford.

With a weekly salary of almost £350,000, Casemiro is reportedly Man United’s biggest earner. He still has two years left on his deal, with an option for a further year.

The situation surrounding Man United’s No. 18 comes at a time when Erik ten Hag’s team has been connected to numerous midfield players in recent weeks, including Joao Neves of Benfica, who is rumored to be the Red Devils’ top target in the event that Casemiro leaves the team.
