Lewis Hamilton reveals failed Max Verstappen apology after Imola near miss

During FP2 at Imola, Max Verstappen encountered a slow Lewis Hamilton at Turns 5 and 6, prompting him to abort his lap to avoid the Mercedes.

Hamilton immediately extended his hand in apology as he went on to finish fourth, three places ahead of Verstappen, who faced challenges for Red Bull throughout the day.

In addition to the incident with Verstappen, Hamilton also faced criticism from Fernando Alonso for appearing slow from the exit of Tosa. However, he swiftly apologized to his former title rival Verstappen following a strong session for Mercedes.

“I was on a cool-down lap, I thought I was well clear,” Hamilton said.

“And all of a sudden, he was right on me, but ultimately it was my mistake.

“I tried to apologise but he was too frustrated already.”
